In February 1958 husband and wife Werner and Doris Fröde founded a
company specialising in the transportation of furniture, in Lörrach. It began with 3 removal vans and 11 employees. By 1961 the transportation of furniture between Germany and Switzerland had been incorporated into the service. In 1964 Doris and Werner Fröde took over the company owned by Doris Fröde-Epp's parents, the Georg Epp GmbH removal company in Stuttgart. 1965 was a decisive year, with the founding of Fröde Möbelspedition AG in its present form in Basel, which continues to run the removal and furniture logistics in Switzerland with great success. Today the company owns over 600 containers, which have been specially equipped for removals and the transportation of furniture, and which can all be used in intermodal transport.
The company expanded in all sectors, with the result that the premises in Lörrach were no longer sufficient and the company had to begin a new path. In 1976 a new installation for offices, a warehouse and a freight vehicle garage, was built on an approx. 2.5 ha piece of land in Weil am Rhein.
After the two owners had been working in the removals and furniture logistics industry for three generations, their son, Thomas Fröde, who had completed his studies and had spent an extensive period of time abroad, started working for the company; he has been managing partner in all sectors of the company ever since.
In 1999 Doris and Werner Fröde decided, together with their son Thomas, to realise the long-planned project of building a container hall, which would be able to cope with all sectors of the warehousing and transport logistics. Up to 500 storage containers can be stacked here.
Thomas Fröde's wife, Kirsten Fröde-Longuet, has been active in the removal business as a trained logistics manager since 2001. In 2004 Werner Schaulin joined Fröde GmbH as a managing partner; he manages the company together with Thomas Fröde.
At present the company manages a logistics park with 4000 m² of transshipment warehousing space, 16500 m² of logistics space, 2000 pallet storage places in a modern high bay warehouse system, as well as a container warehouse for 500 multipurpose cases and overseas containers. A modern technology centre, with its own petrol station, washing station, paint shop and joinery, is the prerequisite required to continue to fulfil the path of a modern company.
The company has only been able to develop to its current size thanks to the faithful, competent and reliable members of staff working at Fröde over the years. They always give customers a top-quality service. Over 180 commercial and industrial members of staff work in the sectors of the company.
The business activities of the Fröde Group have been clearly verified over the past years.
In 1999 Fröde was the initiator for the founding of MACH3000. MACH3000 has seen 14 European specialists in the field of furniture logistics come together and guarantee daily direct transportations or distributions across the whole of Europe.
In 2001 a new delivery service was introduced in Switzerland, which guarantees the daily delivery of goods to the consumer in direct transportations with the company's own freight vehicles throughout Switzerland. Customs clearance can take place at all of the border points between Switzerland and Germany. In our Basel location we offer domicile customs.
In 2006 the cooperation "Cube³ Logistic for a living world GmbH" was founded together with the Heinrich Longuet Company in Lübeck, Meyer + Meyer in Osnabrück and Barth & Co. in Hallbergmoos. This created a unique network of furniture distributors in Germany, which guarantees short transit times throughout Germany using a barcode-supported system. At the same time that Cube³ was founded, the company became an affiliate in the Deutschen Textillogistik (DTL or German Textile Logistics Company) and in Bike Logistics. This meant that the product range of global removals and European furniture logistics could be expanded to include the distribution of hanging clothing and the distribution of bicycles.
As a specialist in dealing with sensitive goods and the experience of handling related products, Fröde provides modern concepts in the industry. With its high quality service, complete customer orientation, diverse range of products and, not least, its reliability, Fröde has a history of continuous growth, and it will continue to meet the challenges of the market in the future.
